Steele Althouse
Owner of Althouse Notary Notary Public, Nanaimo, BC Notary
Nanaimo raised, Steele Althouse understands the community because he’s grown up in it. He attended Shawnigan Lake School before earning his Bachelor of Arts in History from Vancouver Island University (formerly Malaspina University College). Steele began working part-time at his mother’s notary practice in 2002. Recognizing his passion for the profession, he officially joined the practice and was commissioned by the Supreme Court of Canada as a Notary in May 2019 after completing the Notary Education Program and achieving the highest mark in the conveyancing examination.
Steele specialized in conveyancing, focusing mostly on purchase, sale and refinance work. When not at work, Steele can be found at a hockey rink or soccer field watching his son and daughter play. When work slows down in the off-season, Steele heads to Deep Bay to spend time at their summer campsite with his wife, Tara, and their three children, Ainsley, Zack, and Linden.

Iryna Galunenko
Conveyancer, Althouse Notary Corp
Born and raised in Ukraine, Iryna has collected countries the way some people collect fridge magnets — living and working in the U.S., the UAE, and Hungary thanks to her globetrotting hotel career. After landing in Canada, she decided to switch gears and bring her talents to Althouse Notary. She started at the front desk, quickly proved she was meant for more, and has been thriving as a conveyancer for over two years. Fluent in Ukrainian and Russian, she loves connecting with clients from all walks of life. Outside the office, she swaps files for music festivals and trains like a competitive sport is always on the calendar.
Jessica Pittman
Conveyancer, Althouse Notary Corp
Jessica began working at Althouse Notary Corporation in the fall of 2015. She works on all types of real estate transactions, including purchases, refinances, sales and subdivisions. Jessica was born and raised in Nanaimo and grew up sailing throughout the Gulf Islands with her family. When not working, she enjoys hiking with her dogs, going to the gym and spending time with her family.
Melanie Remillard
Conveyancer, Althouse Notary Corp
I began my career in health care before boldly transitioning into conveyancing at Althouse Notary in November of 2023, where patience, resilience, and the occasional glass of wine (when Steele allows it) are essential skills. Born in Saskatoon and raised in Nanaimo since the age of four, I bring decades of life experience and mild sarcasm to every file. I’m married with two hockey-playing boys, which means my life runs on schedules and my car smells like equipment. Outside of work, I garden like it’s therapy, play soccer like my knees are still 20 and quietly maintain side pursuits that ensure I don’t have to feel feelings.
Sara Klapstein
Conveyancer, Althouse Notary Corp
I was born and raised in Nanaimo, British Columbia, and have spent the past two years working in corporate law. I have recently transitioned into real estate and wills and am currently completing my Bachelor’s degree in English at Vancouver Island University, with plans to pursue a career as a Notary Public. Outside of work and school, I enjoy spending my weekends at Sproat Lake, as well as snowboarding in the winter and wakeboarding in the summer.
